French Trotting

Clarent, 29, met Carole, 28, in a photography class in Paris — natch — after living and studying abroad in New York and London. In 2005, after a stint spent traveling as photographers, the duo decided to share their finds from abroad and opened up their first store near the Bastille NFL Jerseys, filled with clothing, accessories and bric-a-brac for men and women.

Two tastemakers, Clarent and Carole Dehlouz of FrenchTrotters, divulge their dearest finds.

Not overtly trendy, the Dehlouzes keep to their Parisian standards by maintaining an unfussy inventory and clean aesthetic for their stores. The general repertoire of mid-range brands carried in the stores vary from local and international tried-and-true basics (A.P.C., Oliver Spencer and Engineered Garments) to emerging ones (Avril Gau and Forte_Forte). “Two weeks ago, we were walking in East London and came across a new men’s line called D.S. Dundee,” Clarent says. “We are now the first in France to start carrying the collection exclusively. Many of our customers come to our shops to find well-crafted products they won’t find everywhere.”

Where can Brooklynites in Paris go for a heritage-brand fix? They can strap on their Red Wings and march right on over to FrenchTrotters, a trio of boutiques on the rive droite. Its young owners, Clarent and Carole Dehlouz, attribute the understated selection of stock in their concept store — which in truth caters more toward style-conscious residents rather than those with a to-the-minute itinerary — to their peripatetic lifestyle. “We’ve spent a lot of time traveling in inspiring cities such as New York NFL Jerseys, Tokyo and London, and that’s where the idea of the name came from,” Clarent says. “A French couple globe-trotting around the world became ‘FrenchTrotters.’”

FrenchTrotters’ flagship is located on 30 rue de Charonne NFL Jerseys, Paris. For more information, go to frenchtrotters.fr/online.

In addition to their flagship, the Dehlouzes recently propped up two other nearby stores — a children’s store right next to the original location aptly named Little FrenchTrotters, a mischievous alternative to Bonpoint for Parisian mothers, and a men’s store in the Marais (a mecca for all Monocle-toting gentlemen). An in-house line of handcrafted garments was launched this past winter, and a slew of collaborations are already planned for later this year.
